The Internet Black Hole

Yes, we’re back in the black hole of no internet.  You may remember that our internet problems started back in December, and they’ve continued and gotten worse over the months.  We’re working hard to get things resolved, but in the meantime, we’ve had very little internet access to post newsletters or update the blog.  We have been using the internet at the church office to try to reply to emails within a couple weeks, as this requires much less internet time and bandwidth.  We plan to play catch-up while in the States this summer, so you can look forward to video posts and all kinds of fun stuff that we can’t upload from here!

Prayer Requests

- Praise the Lord for the salvation of a boy from youth camp, and the eagerness of some new visitors to learn “what Christianity is all about.”

- Praise the Lord for continued health and safety for all of us, especially for Rachel and the baby.

- Praise the Lord for the ladies of IBF who spent 21 weeks studying 1 Peter and for their desire to continue diligently studying God’s Word!

- Pray for our travels to the States (May 25-26)

- Finally, please continue to pray that we would be growing every day in our love for Christ-- that everything we do would flow out of this love!

Coming to the States!

We’re starting to pack and wrapping things up here in Malawi, because we’re coming to the States soon!  We arrive at LAX on Wednesday, May 26th, which is just three weeks from now.  This trip will be a combination of many exciting activities:

* Seeing as many of you as possible,

* Updating our partner churches,

* Having a baby (due August 21st),

* Attending the biennial Grace Ministries International conference,

* Whatever else we can pack into three and a half months!

Our schedule is slowly taking shape.  If you’re in southern or central California, drop us an email and we’ll do our best to see you!  Here’s an idea of where we’ll be staying:

May 26 - June 30: Camarillo, CA
July 1 - 15: Felton, CA
July 16 - Aug 14: Santa Clarita, CA
August 15 - 22: At the GMI conference
Aug 23 - Sept 15: To be determined - near our Dr in Glendale!
September 15 - 17: Flying back to Malawi

We’ll be speaking at several fellowship groups at Grace Community Church, Sun Valley during our stay.  Other churches we’ll be speaking at include:
June 13: Pleasant Valley Bible Church, Camarillo, CA
July 4: First Baptist Church of San Lorenzo Valley, Felton, CA

Rachel 20 weeksBaby Floreen...

...is a girl!  Matt had thought so all along, but Rachel was somewhat surprised by this revelation.  So much for motherly intuition!  Needless to say, we are both extremely excited about this little girl and look forward to meeting her around August 21st!

Ministry and Church Updates

We’ve seen so many amazing things happen over the past few months that we can only summarize them in this newsletter!  We’re bringing lots of stories back, and can’t wait to share them with you.

Rachel has been...

* Leading two Bible studies with ladies from the church on the book of 1 Peter.

* Leading a Bible study for the Junior women at African Bible College

* Teaching a 6 week seminar on the basics of biblical counseling for the ladies of the church.

Matt speaking at Youth CampMatt has been...

* Helping fill the pulpit during Pastor Brian’s absence

* Leading youth group through a book of the Bible each week, and teaching a youth camp on the Gospel

* Organizing Sunday events and admin.

* Looking for church property

* Visiting people

* Counseling

* Helping develop outreach ministries from our church

Additionally, we’ve had dozens of families in our home for lunch on Sunday afternoons, for waffle-and-games night during the week, and whenever an opportunity arises.  We’re so encouraged in all these activities as our relationships with church members grow!  From the youth group, to the ladies’ Bible studies, to the men’s breakfasts, we’ve seen a growing desire to learn, know, and apply the Word of God.  We know this is evidence of God’s work in people’s hearts, and are constantly encouraged by it!
